hahaha good one
heres a nutshell per your request re intl law
http://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/self_determination_international_law
& a veritable midden if wanted
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-determination
but i would claim to be a self determined follower of actual cosmic law
rather than merely of philosophy
by virtue of cosmic law we are not merely entitled to self determination
but are in full possession of it at all times
from before birth til after death
it is only our ignorance of the law that leads us to think we are ever
subject to anything beyond our own thoughts beliefs expectations desires etc

Republic of Veneto - not quite the same thing as Venice. But close.
People like the Governor of Veneto quoted in the linked article insist that
"international law . allow[s] the right to self-determination." But of
course it doesn't allow this for every island and sliver of land that feels
frisky. Would Giudecca or Burano be allowed to secede from an independent
Venice? That's silly - but on the other hand the right of
self-determination is a real thing, isn't it? Or is it only real when the
UN or the Great Powers decide to apply it? And in that case why object to
Crimea?
I understand Aletheia's radical idealistic view that every single person is
entitled to independence and self-determination, and that none of this is
silly. But I would be interested to learn more about the more mainstream
theory of when there is a right of self-determination outside of nationally
(Falklands) or internationally (Kosovo) sponsored plebiscites in unusual
situations, and whether there is any justification in international law (as
opposed to philosophy) for the position that a part of an internationally
recognized country can secede from the rest of it absent agreement by that
country's government or an enabling constitutional provision.
Meanwhile here in the Former San Francisco, the Republic of 47th Avenue is
mobilizing against the Republic of Taraval Street - we need to ensure a
neutral corridor of access to the bus stop, although buses were a city
function so there aren't any buses any more but still, it's the principle of
the thing, and so we're mobilizing to fracture their rump.

on the heels of fast track crimean independence by snap referendum
comes the new republic of venice

except this time there could be 2 new sovereign territorial tripoints
both with austria & rump italy
&
the italian region of friuli venezia guilia would become an exclave
as this map shows
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veneto
talking about fractured rumps
the question of quebec independence too may be coming up again soon for yet
another vote
that far more complex situation has already been much more thoroughly
analyzed here

while the ongoing catalunya & scotland tries are already famous enough to
need no introduction
