it looks like our 2007 guess about aeomsa being in the middle of the funny
semicircle described & pictured here

has proved to be correct
thanx to the 1995 omsa demarcation commission which turns out to have
planted a neat row of at least 10 beacons leading directly & precisely to
this terminal point from the previous omsa turnpoint at n22 55e40
the 8 intervening markers i have found from out of a possible total of 19
or 20 at irregular 5km intervals may be all there are in the series or else
i may have missed some others due to poor local satpix
but when i run a line between the terminals it kisses all 8 intermediate
markers leaving no doubt of the intended alignment

so i no longer have any question about where aeomsa really is at the moment
notwithstanding that google places it somewhere else entirely & yahoo
somewhere else again
in a nutshell
until further notice aeomsa is at the marker in the semicircle
at the same time
if the aeom commission ever gets around to prolonging the southermost leg
of their present boundary
then aeomsa could fall in that case at or near the point labeled aeomsa2 in
the following diagram

this understanding was greatly helped by the good ladies of the back side
border expedition
http://thedesertdiva.com/2012/11/20/the-back-side-border-expedition/
who tho they never actually reached the tripoint were both skillful & lucky
enough to wind up at the pivotal marker of the 1995omsa demarcation 90km089
i have come to the conclusion that the omsa commissioners must have left
this odd marker as a kind of placemark or predemarcation
just shy of the expected intersection of omsa with aeom if the latter is
ever prolonged southward as was intended
it is interesting that a technique normally reserved for maritime tripoint
placements was used twice on aeomsa
once by the aeom commissioners & once again by the omsa commissioners
the idea is to run your line just shy of the expected intersection target
point so you or anyone can simply prolong & complete it when the
intersection can finally be closed
this may or may not ever happen here
but in the meantime we do have a demarcated tripoint position to celebrate
probably right where the raiding well used to be before it dried up
so it is likely more authentic than & preferable to the still uncertain
alternative
the irony is we are still unaware of there ever having been a visit
but i am hoping i can persuade the ladies to give it another try
