tho many have assumed & claimed that arbrpy must be a simple tripoint
located smack in the middle of that lovely balanced looking tee junction
confluence we just saw
nevertheless after some effort at conceptualizing here after hours in the
parking lot of the 4 winds cafe in carrizozo
i have come to understand that arbrpy is actually a triline rather than a
mere tripoint
& its location is actually in a rather strange place
heres how it happens
there is no problem at all with the lower parana which separates argentina
from paraguay
for within it the arpy boundary is clearly defined as the center line
& there is no real problem with the upper parana which separates brazil &
paraguay
tho the river is actually a brpy condominium there
& thus would generate a triline rather than a tripoint
much like we have seen at bedelu etc
running halfway across the full width of the river
the bigger eccentricity arises however with the iguazu tributary which
separates argentina & brazil
for within it the arbr boundary is clearly defined as the thalweg or the
line of deepest soundings
which is not the same as the center line
the thalweg of a tributary could enter the main stream at any point of the
tributary mouth
whether roughly in the center or far to one side or the other
in fact aerial photography strongly suggests
if it does not prove outright
that the iguazu thalweg emerges into the parana very near the left bank of
both rivers
& then continues a short distance down the main stream until it unites with
the parana thalweg
thus the brpy condo does not terminate where the right bank of the iguazu
first meets the parana
nor does it terminate even at the middle of the mouth of the iguazu
a la bedelu
but rather it must extend all the way down to the point where the iguazu
thalweg breaks the plane of the parana
roughly 9 tenths of the way across the iguazu mouth
& from that point the arbrpy triline runs perpendicularly halfway across
the parana
so it is doubly eccentric
once owing to the condo & once owing to the thalweg
